A Bridge Between the Laboratory and the Market: GeneH and Gene Therapy at CTGCT Days 2025

  • 23. 9. 2025

The final day of the CTGCT Days 2025 event, held from 15 to 17 September at Hotel Slon in Ljubljana, was dedicated to the GeneH project – the Centre of Excellence for Advancing Innovation in Gene Therapy, in which the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RDA LUR) is also a partner.

The event, organised by the Centre for Technologies in Gene and Cell Therapy (CTGCT) of the National Institute of Chemistry, brought together researchers, clinical experts and industry representatives to exchange translational achievements – from genome editing to applications in rare and neurological diseases.

In the morning session of engaging expert lectures focused on rare diseases and gene therapy strategies, prof. Luís Pereira de Almeida from the University of Coimbra also gave a presentation, addressing the broader efforts of the GeneH project and specifically highlighting outstanding preclinical progress in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, one of the priority rare genetic diseases addressed within GeneH.

This was followed by a round table discussion entitled Connecting Innovation and Commercialisation in Gene and Cell Therapy, where representatives from industry and science highlighted the interplay of factors that could accelerate the translation of research into clinical therapies, in particular by attracting more venture capital.

You are kindly invited to visit the GeneH project page, wheras the abstracts can be accessed here.
