The region
The Ljubljana Urban Region unites 25 municipalities and communities in central Slovenia and is the region with the most knowledge and creative potential: key national, scientific, research, educational and cultural institutions are concentrated here.
Furthermore, numerous companies are headquartered in the region, which employ significant numbers of people and create more than a third of Slovenia’s gross domestic product. Consequently, the Ljubljana Urban Region is the most economically developed region in the country.
More than 500,000 people live in the region; they are highly educated, creative, innovative and enterprising, and create the highest added value per employee in Slovenia.
It is not only that the capital city of Slovenia – Ljubljana – is located here: the region is also distinguished by its easily accessible natural environment, diverse wildlife, and varied landscape. The vicinity of quality natural areas and the interweaving of the built and natural environments make Ljubljana truly unique among European metropolitan regions.
