Ljubljana Urban Region on the Path to Carbon Neutrality: First Stakeholder Meeting of the TERRAIN Project

  • 3. 2. 2025

On the penultimate day of January, stakeholders of the so-called living laboratory within the TERRAIN project gathered at the themed Info Point “Ljubljana on the Path to Carbon Neutrality.”

The meeting was dedicated to presenting and discussing the project, which brings together partners from various European cities in the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region with the aim of enhancing sustainable mobility and developing smarter, greener solutions for urban transport infrastructure.

In the introductory part, we reviewed the current state of sustainable mobility in the region and city, as well as the process of developing new municipal comprehensive transport strategies. We also touched on plans for the preparation of a new regional comprehensive transport strategy in 2025 and key challenges and opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to improve public transport infrastructure and spatial planning at the national level.

This was followed by a presentation of the TERRAIN project, its goals and tasks, as well as the role of stakeholders in the so-called living lab in designing action plans, implementing the pilot project, sharing expert knowledge, and providing recommendations.

Two interesting presentations followed. The first outlined future steps within Mission 100 and its action plan for achieving climate neutrality by 2030. The second provided insight into the plans of the company Nomago d.o.o. for improving the region’s connectivity with the city, with a focus on micromobility and the development of e-bikes, which stakeholders recognize as a key future direction for sustainable mobility in the region.

In an interactive discussion, we analyzed the travel habits of stakeholders in the so-called living laboratory, considered the necessary measures for the development of sustainable mobility, and laid the foundations for implementing a pilot project in a smaller municipality within the Ljubljana Urban Region. We also explored ways to better engage stakeholders and expand the list of participants in the living laboratory, setting the stage for future meetings.

The meeting concluded with an invitation from RRA LUR for active participation in upcoming stakeholder meetings and contributions to content development, which will also be made available online.

We invite all stakeholders and decision-makers involved in planning sustainable mobility policies at the national, regional, and local levels to participate in an online survey.

We also invite citizens, residents of the region, and everyone who is in any way mobile in the Ljubljana Urban Region to actively participate. Everyone is warmly welcomed to take part and co-create more sustainable mobility, initially by participating in the online survey and later by actively engaging in upcoming events that are being prepared.
