TERRAIN: Presentation of Regional Mobility Vision in Ig and Study Visit in Sarajevo

  • 16. 10. 2025

October’s TERRAIN activities focused on the first regional mobility vision study and a study visit in Sarajevo, highlighting good practices in sustainable public transport and urban design.

Presentation of the first TERRAIN regional study on mobility visions and needs

During the meeting of municipal coordinators for the European Mobility Week, held on 2 October 2025 at the Ig Centre, partners presented the first draft analysis of mobility visions and needs across the Adriatic-Ionian region.

The study includes Bologna (Italy), the Ljubljana Urban Region (Slovenia), Zagreb (Croatia) and Ioannina (Greece) as mentors, and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Pančevo and Belgrade (Serbia), Skopje (North Macedonia), Durrës (Albania) and Berane (Montenegro) as mentees.

Its goal is to identify common challenges and opportunities in transitioning towards climate-neutral mobility and to support the development of integrated transport strategies across the region.

Study visit in Sarajevo: exploring sustainable mobility solutions

Later in the month, on 9–10 October 2025, Sarajevo hosted the 3rd TERRAIN Project Meeting and Study Visit, organized by the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton.

The first day was dedicated to project progress presentations and discussions on pilot planning and stakeholder engagement. RRA LUR led the session within Work Package 2 on developing action plans, while the City of Ljubljana shared its experience in promoting sustainable mobility and creating high-quality public spaces.

The second day featured a comprehensive study visit focused on sustainable mobility and public transport development. The agenda included:

  • a train ride between Sarajevo and Pazarić, highlighting the role of rail in regional mobility,
  • a visit to the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo to explore cycling infrastructure projects,
  • a walk along Vilsonovo promenade, an example of pedestrian-friendly urban design,
  • and a stop at the trolleybus depot, where participants learned about the fleet renewal process with new trams and trolleybuses.

The visit concluded with a ride on the Trebević cable car, linking sustainable tourism and urban mobility, followed by informal networking and cultural exchange in Baščaršija.

We were pleased to be joined by a representative of the Associated Partner – City of Ljubljana, further strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange among Adriatic-Ionian cities and regions.
