TERRAIN Snapshot – Ljubljana Urban Region: Smart and Digital Mobility in Focus
On 27 January 2026, the Ljubljana Urban Region hosted an online TERRAIN Snapshot event, bringing together project partners and external experts to share experiences and good practices in sustainable, smart, digital and inclusive mobility.
During the session, representatives of the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region presented key regional characteristics, current mobility challenges and ongoing initiatives, with a special focus on smart and digital mobility, where Ljubljana urban region acts as a mentor region within the TERRAIN project.
The Snapshot also featured the new regional promotional video, recorded at the beginning of 2026 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Agency, offering participants a visual overview of the region’s development, innovation potential and quality of life.
Participants learned about major developments such as integrated public transport, the regional e-bike sharing system, e-mobility fleets, and the preparation of a new Regional Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and Regional Spatial Plan. The event also highlighted the importance of citizen participation, digital tools, and cross-sector cooperation for shaping future mobility systems.
The Snapshot concluded with a discussion on transferability of solutions to other regions and reaffirmed the role of TERRAIN in supporting knowledge exchange and innovation across Europe.
At the end of the session, participants jointly created a word cloud in an interactive Mentimeter exercise, answering the question:
“Which word comes to mind when you think about the future of digital mobility in your city or region?”
The dominant response was “challenging”, alongside terms such as connected, integrated, multimodal, citizen engagement and greener environment, reflecting both the opportunities and complexity of the digital mobility transition.
A video recording of the Snapshot session will be available on the TERRAIN webpage at the following link.
